Welcome to the world of Keats View Cottage. We acquired this 1930′s home in 2008 and have been busy ever since; repairing, improving and making it work both as our weekend home and a seasonal vacation rental. Gibsons BC - about 75 minutes from downtown Vancouver – is where we thought we might like to retire, so it only made sense to check it out in advance and get a bit of a toe-hold in the community.
And so far, we like it - a lot.
We like the house, the garden and the nearby beach for afternoon walks. The town has charm, great restaurants, nice shops and friendly people. The scenery is amazing. Have a look at some pictures of the town.
In fact, my only regret is that I wish I could spend more time there. I like how uncomplicated things are at the cottage. I like to look out on the sea. And it is very pleasant to have a project to share with my partner, the Cottager. We won’t run out of things to be done any time soon, but only our enthusiasm is hurrying us along.
Please note that whatever I may be tempted to express to the contrary in future posts, Cottager is my true Darcy. Two fine sons and two quarrelling cats round out our ‘quiet family party.’
I invite you to follow along as we plan and implement our evolving scheme for the building and the ‘park.’ You can laugh at my inept efforts or coach me along, according to your own whims.
About Me / Us
I write for a living, but nothing you would care to read. I take great satisfaction from raising a family in a fairly old-fashioned way. I must be a simple person because good books, hot baths, cold beer, and sunny days out-of-doors thrill me. Somewhat unexpectedly, gardening may soon be added to this list.
As a family, we like to sail, bike and explore. We love to travel – especially in Europe. We hope to connect with other cottage owners abroad for a saucy bit of cottage swapping. If that might be you – be sure to leave your contact info!

Checking in to say hi, and complement you on your lovely blog. I live vicariously through you! I dream of a beach cottage, like the ones where I grew up in So Calif. We are almost neighbors now, since I live near Seattle. I’m glad to see that you get a bit of sunshine to enjoy your lovely garden and family outing to the seaside. Our sunshine is on holiday as of late.
Take care, Laurel Ann
Just checked out your blog and really love it! It’s so unique. You’re living my dream!
Hi,
I’m lucky I get to live beside the beach all the time. But, I dont get the sunshine you seem to get in Gibson. It’s looks an amazing place just looking at the photos at http://www.gibsons.ca
All the best
Tom
Hello,
While visiting a very dear friend at Queen’s Bay we got to chatting about your parents. So I decided that I would give your Mum a call – we had a great time getting re-acquainted. You see my parents Isabel and Emerson Moore lived just down the street from our Grandparents on Carbonate Street. In fact your Mum used to babysit my older sisters. So our connection goes quite a ways back.
At any rate during our “catching up time” your Mum mentioned that she still makes my Mum’s Bran Muffin Recipe and that you actually have that recipe posted on your blog. She encouraged me to check out your blog which I am doing now. (I haven’t been able to find the recipe section yet.) But, here’s the clincher, your Mum mentioned that you have the recipe posted with milk as one of the ingredients when in fact it should be buttermilk. I told your Mum that once I got back to our lake property at Christina Lake I would check the recipe. In fact it should be buttermilk. (ummmmm….. my Mum was right most of the time too
I have your Mum’s email address so will be contacting her – but if you would like to get in touch with me that would be great too.
I enjoyed skimming through your blog – well done! I am about to jump in the water for a swim but once I’m out I’ll take a much closer look of your blog. Hope to hear from you should you have a minute.
